WHAT WE DO
Celebrating Asian Pacific Americans in the San Gabriel Valley
In 1996, Congress designated May Asian Pacific American month. We're happy to honor the contributions of Asian Pacific Americans in our very own APAFEST with workshops, discussions, film screenings, performances and demonstrations.
All events and activities are FREE. We hope you can join us!
UNITED CHARITY FOUNDATION
The United Charity Foundation was established in 2002 as a philanthropic endeavor when a group of girlfriends from San Marino wanted to find a way to educate the next generation about ways to give back to the community. By supporting local community organizations through volunteerism and genuine giving, United Charity Foundation teaches youth about philanthropy through lived experience, character building and by bridging intercultural gaps.
Some of the local charitable organizations United Charity Foundation has worked with include American Cancer Society, the Huntington Library, Huntington Hospital, Pasadena Symphony Orchestra, PTA, PCC Foundation, San Gabriel Asian Youth Center, L.A. County Workforce Development Aging & Community Services, Chinese Floral Arts Foundation-USA Charter and San Marino Crowell Public Library. UCF received a proclamation from the Obama administration recognizing their work supporting Five Acres, the oldest orphanage/foster-parenting agency in Los Angeles. The United Charity Foundation focuses on organizations in the areas of health, cultural arts and education, sponsoring various charitable events and initiatives across the United States and in China.
UCF President Linda Moy believes that giving is receiving and by supporting organizations throughout our community, we can help ensure all children are able to have successful future.
UCF Founding member and APAFEST Executive Producer Vivian Chan believes that volunteering pays dividends that will continue to reward not only ourselves, but everyone we interact with now and in the future. By teaching kids’ compassion, morals and philanthropy, we can make the world a better place!
SAN GABRIEL MISSION PLAYHOUSE
San Gabriel Mission Playhouse promotes the development of an artistic program that celebrates the vibrancy of our diverse community by encouraging access to artists, producers and audiences. Located in the heart of a historic neighborhood, we embrace our role as a focal point for the arts, for the people of the City of San Gabriel and far beyond.
We are proud to host a remarkable and eclectic array of productions and events ranging from Western Symphonies to Chinese Opera, from Classical Ballet to Ballet Folklorico, from Jazz to Hip-Hop, from some of the best Mariachi bands to colorful Broadway shows.
For many years, the Playhouse was solely a rental facility. In 2013, staff produced a re-imagined version of The Mission Play, the show that the Playhouse was originally built for in 1927. Since then, the Playhouse has developed a lively program of cultural experiences that investigate its history and promote cultural interaction and awareness. By forming meaningful and ongoing partnerships with artists and organizations, the Playhouse is delighted to be able to offer many events free or at a low prices to encourage participation and access for all through this program called Engage!
The Mission Playhouse is owned and operated by the City of San Gabriel, and its activities and programs, including the Engage! program are only made possible with the City’s continuing support.
